An honest old VH SL/E: Highly original and been off the road for about ten years
Holden had been touting the European-ness of the Commodore since its initial release in 1978, but the VH SL/E took that ethos to new heights.
As buyers increasingly turned away from full-size luxury limos, the VH SL/E promised the same level of comfort in a smaller package.
Buyers could opt for the big 3.3lt six or either of the 4.2lts or 5.0lt V8s; but cog-swapping was an auto-only affair.
They remain a handsome unit today, and a smooth driving experience with niceties such as factory power steering, power windows and air-conditioning in top-spec SL/E trim.
This one comes to market after being off the road for around ten years, and shows 200,000kms from new and is supported by original log books and manuals.
It still wears its original coat of Alabaster White, with its gold pinstripes still intact and with minor touch-ups on right-hand side pillar and rear window surround. The two-tone tanbark trim is also original, and presents in great and largely unmarked condition.
The VH SL/E also presents with its original 3.3lt six-cylinder and Trimatic auto as delivered from factory.
Overall, it looks to be a tremendous little surviving high-spec VH Commodore; and not asking unreasonable money either.
Preserve it as is and enjoy cruising, or use it as a solid base for a minor resto.
The car is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $16,500.
