1981 Holden TE Gemini SL/X – Todays Throwback Tempter

Beautiful in beige

The TE Holden Gemini was the fifth iteration of the first generation of the Iron lion’s compact family car.

Built between October 1979 and March 1982, the TE Gemini replaced the outgoing TD model, and represented a significant change in both the cars styling and its performance.

Power came from a choice of either an Isuzu sourced 1.6lt petrol-powered inline four-cylinder or a 1.8lt diesel-powered inline four-cylinder motor.

The shove from these donks was sent to the rear wheels via either a four or five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic transmission.

Body styles that the TE could be had in included a four-door sedan, two-door wagon or a three-door van.

Trim specifications that customers could choose to option the TE Gemini in comprised the SL, SL/X and limited edition ‘Gypsy’ model.

The TE proved to be a successful model for Holden, with over 70,000 cars being sold in its three year lifespan, making the TE the most sold iteration ever to bare the Gemini moniker.

This particular Gemini is a ’81 SL/X model with the 1.6lt petrol motor and the three-speed automatic transmission.

According to the seller, the Gemini has travelled an original 134476 kilometres from new and has only ever had one owner.

The Gemini is $10,990 and anyone interested in what the seller describes as a “must see collector’s item” can view the full listing here.
