Classic Alfetta: resprayed, rebuilt engine, lots of new parts
Alfa Romeo’s two-door hatchback Alfetta GT first arrived in 1975 as a modern angular departure from the original Alfetta sedan which was intended to modernise the classic 105 Series.
But while the 105 Series was already using a 2.0lt engine, the early Alfetta briefly reverted back to a 1.8lt, before returning to the 2.0lt twin-cam unit in 1977.
The Alfetta also featured rack and pinion steering, independent rear suspension and front torsion bars.
They were a trendy and modern unit back in the day and haven’t lost much of their magic as they remain an extremely popular classic today.
Early cars were known to be ‘nervous’ handlers as well as prone to weak gearboxes, but passionate enthusiasts have found numerous ways to sort out this chassis; judging from the numerous examples found in motorsports around the country.
This Alfetta GTV is a 1981 model, so is specified with the 2.0lt twin-cam backed by the five-speed manual.
Unfortunately there is only one photo attached to the listing; however the description describes a lot of work that has gone into the car.
The Alfetta has been resprayed with a new spoiler and rear bumper fitted. The engine has also been rebuilt, with the car being fitted with new brakes, a new fuel tank, new radiator and a stainless steel exhaust system.
Inside the cabin, the seats have been reupholstered with the dash refurbished with ‘Momo accessories’. The car currently sports a set of Simmons B45 wheels, although the seller points out that the sale will include five oem wheels, as well as many spare parts.
It’s a handsome and genuinely desirable classic that should appeal to many Alfa Romeo enthusiasts.
The Alfetta is based in Queensland and is listed for $20,000.
