Porsche’s early turbos is one of those cars that ended up on posters on kids’ walls, that people lusted after the stuff of legend.
According to our feature on the series: “The whole turbo production stream was more the product of accident than strategy. After some spectacular success with turbo engines in CanAm and sports cars, the company decided a homologation version of the 911 would broaden its opportunities on the track. ‘So maybe we’ll build 400 or so,’ was the thinking. That was the early 70s, and they’re still pumping them out.”
This 1980 example is said to have been a highly-optioned right-hand-drive car from day one, and has since had a well-recorded history. It’s claiming relatively low miles and to be in exceptionally original shape.
The driveline is a 3.3 flat six claiming 221kw matched to a four-speed manual transmission.
Oldtimer in Brisbane has this car listed at $289,950.
