Nicest one we’ve seen in a while, cheap too!
Holden’s TE Gemini arrived late in 1979 and marked the fifth iteration of Holden’s first-gen compact family car.
With design borrowed from Opel’s Kadett, Holden sourced its four-pot powerplant from Isuzu as Japanese brands had taken huge chunks out of the local car market by the mid-70s.
The engines weren’t awe-inspiring, but thanks to a lithe sub-tonne kerb weight, rack-and-pinion steering, front disc brakes and all-round coil suspension; they were a sweet handling car.
Emission controls were introduced in 1979 as the TE arrived, with engine outputs for the 1.6lt petrol dwindling as a result.
The TE still sold over 70,000 units over its three years of production; available in sedan, two-door wagon or three-door van bodies. Trim specs were comprised of the base SL, SL/X and limited edition ‘Gypsy’.
This 1980 TE Gemini sedan appears to be an SL/X and is said to have had one previous owner.
It’s reportedly always been serviced and garaged with a claimed 79,900 kms on the odometer.
It looks very presentable in photos, with clean jambs and engine bay, all exterior trim in place, and a neat well-kept tan interior. The listing states that there is no rust present in the car.
Listed for $7,400 – the little Gem makes for a cheap Aussie classic compact.
It’s based in Victoria, you can check out the full listing here!
