While it may have started life as a light and inexpensive commercial vehicle, the Volkswagen Kombi became much more than that, becoming something of a cult vehicle.
In a recent feature on this series we noted: “Since its 1950 launch, the air-cooled rear-engine Transporter has been nicknamed the Splitty, Hippie Bus, Ganja Bus, Campervan and Shaggin’ Wagon, although the latter’s seemingly applied to any vehicle that fits a mattress.
These Kombi Fun Buses are as woven into Australian beach culture as surfboards and suntans. No other car so perfectly represents a lifestyle on wheels, and clichés runneth over. Peace, love, freedom … with a decent dose of Good Time thrown in.”
This bay window version is running a 1600 flat four with four-speed manual transmission. The body is fitted with a Devon Moonraker Camper set-up.
It’s with Prestige Auto Gallery in Sydney, priced at $34,990.
