1979 Ford XC Falcon 500 Ute – Todays Tempter

Solid and seemingly original XC 500 ute with original 302

Ford’s much-loved range of XA-XC Falcons were hugely successful when new; tempting buyers with the new ‘coke-bottle’ body, a vast model range, plenty of options and brash loud colours. By the generation’s end – 520,000 of them had been sold by the Blue Oval throughout the 70s.

So you’d think they’d be relatively plentiful out there on the market; however in truth the new curvaceous body was a nightmare for panel beaters to repair, and many of those that didn’t get left at the tip fell victim to rust over the decades.

The final iteration of the series, the XC, lost some of its ‘coke-bottle’ curves in favour of a more slab-sided body with a more pronounced swage line running through the rear haunches. It also gained chunkier bumpers and a softer bonnet line to visually distinguish its updated modernity.

New ADR emissions regulations lead many to fear the XC’s performance would be throttled back, but in truth it was mainly the six-cylinders that were most affected, and actually yielded performance gains winning over many buyers in the process.

The XC 500 ute on sale here is described in the listing as an “original factory order” and an unchanged “GS” ute.

The correct GS Rally Pack goodies appear to be in place; including the bonnet scoops, sports steering wheel, bumper overriders, 12 slots, sports steering wheel and instruments.

The car is also described as an original 302 V8 car, and is further fitted with air-conditioning, power steering, disc brake rear and a LSD.

The XC ute also comes to market full serviced, with new brakes, shocks, alternator and more. Recent work includes fuel tank removal and resealing, and overhauled original carburettor. The seller states that the car has no rust and is currently on full Queensland registration.
