Zed coupes are finding new fans
If the original designers are still around, they’d probably get a hell of a kick out of the idea that the Datsun Zed series has managed to find a whole new generation of fans after all these years.
Have a squiz at the driver at most of them these days and many of them either weren’t born, or were in nappies when these things were built.
Known as the S130 of 280ZX, this generation cemented the mission shift for the Zed series from sports car to grand tourer. They were substantial machines, with a high level of comfort, and this generation was built 1978 to 1983.
Several engine variants for this body were available across the international markets, however the one we saw here was a normally-aspirated 2.8lt six – a tough and well-developed engine (aka the L28E) with lots of tuning potential.
Manual and auto transmissions were available.
This example is an auto and looks to be a complete and tidy car. We have a suspicion this could turn out to be a good value for money buy.
Online bidding has started and the final auction happens this Saturday. Look for lot 15.
