We caught up with Brett Pember and his '78 Mitsubishi Lancer at our recent Rolling 30 event at Sydney Motorsport Park
This car was actually sold brand new as a Chrysler by my father who owned Pember’s Mitsubishi at Woonoona. The guy who bought it traded it in about 5 years later when I was looking for my first car, so my dad bought it back.
Of course, being my first car, I would hoon around in it quite a bit but now I’ve grown up I look after it a lot more, I couldn’t ever imagine parting with it now.
Once the old engine was worn out I decided to chuck a 2.4L engine into and we removed the EFI and replaced it with carbies just because I liked the sound of them. I also threw in a roll cage and a whole heap of other parts from different makes and models, because there are more Ford and Datsun parts available. It’s all Frankenstein-ed together to make it into a fun track car for my son and I to enjoy.
The day will come when I pass it on to my son and keep it in the family.
