1978 MGB GT V8 Sebring tribute – today’s auction tempter

Race replica restomod

For MG, the USA was an absolutely critical market and more than likely the source of most of its profits in the post-war world. So it came as no surprise the factory would have a crack at the high-profile 12-hour Sebring endurance race.

The first factory team of MGBs to tackle the event were three lightweight four-cylinder specials, sparking what has become a mini cottage industry in replicas.

This MGB GT takes the form to its natural conclusion, with a 4.6lt Rover alloy V8 in the nose, matched to a five-speed Tremec transmission.

That lot is riding on a bespoke suspension set-up, with coilovers in the front and a five-link design in the rear.

It’s now up for auction with Collecting Cars.
