1978 Ford XC Cobra – today’s tempter

V8 legend

If you want a local car that really stands out from the crowd, a Ford Falcon Cobra hardtop is probably the winning answer.

In a feature on the series we noted: “Riding the wave of the 1977 Bathurst legendary 1-2 Falcon finish, Edsel Ford commissioned the 400 body shells to be painted Sno White, creating two large stripes running from front to back and large Cobra decals, for a Shelby Mustang look. The first prototype Falcon Cobra was completed April 1978 with production getting underway in July.”

This example is number 170, sporting the premium 5.8lt V8 and originally an FMX auto transmission. The latter has been refurbished and replaced with a four-speed manual.

By far the most remarkable feature is this car is said to be in unrestored condition, with a little over 100,000km on the odo. The engine has undergone a rebuild.

It’s with Australian Muscle Car Sales, priced at $285,000.
