1978 Ford P6 LTD – Todays Classic Luxo Tempter

Aussie opulence at its best

The Ford P6 LTD is a quintessential example of an era in Australian automotive manufacturing where luxury was defined by large proportions, four doors, shedloads of leather and velour, chrome everywhere and woodgrain dashes.

Produced between 1976 and 1979, the P6 replaced the outgoing P5 model and was designed to rectify a number of the P5s shortcomings, namely the model being too similar to its regular Falcon counterpart.

The P6 chassis was underpinned by the XC Falcon, however in an effort to give the impression of a more luxurious vehicle, the front and rear of the car was elongated.

Styling wise, the LTD received a very flash and quite large front grille and a new quad headlight arrangement that some said was akin to Rolls-Royces of the period.

Power came from a 351cc (5.75lt) Cleveland V8 that produced a healthy 217hp (162kW). This power was sent to the rear wheels via Ford’s three-speed FMX automatic transmission.

This particular LTD is a ’78 model and, according to the seller, has travelled an original 180,000 kilometres from new.

The seller adds that the LTD has undergone a full restoration and, judging by the photos, the vehicle is in great condition.

The price for this Aussie luxo-barge is $22,000 and anyone interested can view the full listing here
