Classic British V8 roadster, with full history and as original as it gets!
In our eyes, the Triumph Stag produced from 1970-1977, has aged remarkably well as a classic British roadster.
It was moderately successful when new, with just under 29,000 units built.
The car started life as a Triumph 2000, but were redesigned by Giovanni Michelotti, or took the otherwise pedestrian sedan and turned it into a two-door. The rollover-bar has always been divisive, but was necessary thanks to the USA’s recent – at the time – rollover design regulations.
Owners could choose between a soft and hard top (the latter is recommended for those in rainy climates), and under the bonnet sat Triumph’s own 3.0lt V8.
The 3.0lt V8 doesn’t have the greatest reputation for reliability, however over the years; the passionate following these cars boast have cultivated a wealth of knowledge and support in making these little V8s dependable and reliable.
This 1977 Triumph Stag looks like an incredibly well-kept original car, coming from one family ownership since new.
It presents in factory and original Russett Brown duco with original and untouched beige interior. The Borg-Warner three-speed auto is mated to the little 3.0lt V8, in as-delivered matching numbers specification.
The car’s odometer reads 162,000kms, documented by original owner log books (with all service stamps), registration papers and receipts. The seller states that the car was daily driven by the original owner until 1992, when it was passed on to his son who drove the car until 2003. Since then it was placed into “professional storage”, and has recently been re-registered and returned to the road following a recent service regarding oils, filters, brakes and new tyres.
The listing calls the car: “as original as it gets”. It reportedly has never had any paint or trim work – and the lamb wool seat covers have been in place from new. Given the original paint, there is some slight patina but no rust or damage. The soft-top presents as perfect, and an original hard top will be included in the sale.
Overall, it looks like a great original find, well-kept and in good condition. Listed for $20,000, it could be a great gateway into classic car ownership.
