Nice original ZH Fairlane: 4.9lt V8, good paint and interior
By the time Ford’s ZH Fairlane arrived in 1976, the brand’s once-dominant position within the large luxury segment had slipped significantly down to about 27%, from a high point of about 50% market share.
In response, the Blue Oval would take the XC Falcon’s midsection and graft on generous amounts of sheet-metal to either end to form the new ZH Fairlane. Design wise, the new look was bold, influenced by US design at the time where a car’s level of luxury was measured by pure size.
Standard equipment newly included radial tyres, a limited-slip differential, rear disc brakes and intermittent wipers; whilst the overall model range was simplified into a two-pronged approach.
The 500 model became the standard trim level, replacing the Custom, while the Marquis occupied the upmarket offering, coming with air-conditioning, power windows and twin lounge seats up front as standard.
This 1977 ZH Fairlane comes to market as a seemingly original and well-kept large locally-made limousine.
It’s fitted with the basic 4.9lt V8 and is described as a rust-free vehicle with good paint work and good condition interior.
The car has covered 247,000kms in its life and is fitted with a dual fuel system and twin exhaust.
From the photos, the car – albeit dusty – looks intact and free of noticeable or significant blemishes.
The listing does state that “driver’s seat needs attention” however we don’t observe any wear and tear within the attached interior photo.
