Comprehensively restored and barely driven since: great useable weekend workhorse
The ‘square rigger’ HJ arrived late in ’74 and remained in production until July of ’76.
The car’s boxy front end gave the car more road presence and aggression; and was available in a range of body styles including four-door sedans, five-door wagons, as well as two-door utes and panel vans. At this stage too, you could opt for a HJ Monaro in either four-door or two-door guise.
This ’76 HJ Ute began life as a standard Belmont and bears the 253 V8 under the bonnet mated to a three-speed auto.
The car underwent a major restoration in 2013, and is said to have been garaged ever since with only a couple of drives per year.
It’s dressed as a silver Sandman, with a Premier front end, and full GTS interior with dash and instruments (Tachometer and clock not working).
It’s got central locking, air con, modern Alpine sound system, Pro-matic 2 shifter and a Mongoose alarm with GPS tracking.
Overall, it’s a well presented car throughout – and while it might not be an original resto, it bears a number of modern niceties to make it a very useable and fuss-free weekend workhorse!
It’s reasonable coin too – $22,800.
