Aussie workhorse for $5k
The third-last of the series begun with the HQ, the Holden HJ was produced between October of 1974 and July of 1976.
The easiest way to spot one is the redesigned ‘square rigger’ front end, which gave the car a little more visual bulk and presence, though the sedan was yet to get the complementary squared-off panel in the boot lid that came with the later models.
Customers could have their HJ in a number of different body styles that comprised a four-door sedan, five-door wagon, two-door ute and a two-door panel van. At this stage, you could still get a Monaro in two-doors or four.
The HJ derived its power from three different engines: a 3.3lt inline six-cylinder, plus 4.2lt or 5.0lt V8.
These engines sent their collective oomph to the HJ’s rear wheels via either a three or four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmissions.
This particular HJ is a ’76 Kingswood two-door ute and, according to the owner, comes equipped with a blue six which was reconditioned approximately 50,000 kilometres ago and a four-speed Celica manual gearbox.
The Vic seller adds that the HJ comes also comes with genuine GTS guards, aftermarket extractors and is currently running on dual-fuel.
