1976 Ford Fairlane ZG – Todays Tempter

Aussie big-body with extensive work looks the goods

ZG’s are getting to be a rare sight these days. In production from 1973-1976, they were a more evolved and upgraded step in the second-generation Fairlane’s life.

With more standard features packed into it, and some chassis and suspension tweaks underneath – the ZG’s road manners were more composed and more comfortable than its predecessor, the ZF.

From the factory, engine options included a 250 six-banger, and the 302 and 351 V8s, and cog-swapping was handled for you by a three-speed auto.

ZGs can be good buying but buyers should be on the lookout for rust, especially if fitted with a vinyl roof. Similarly, it was fairly commonplace back in the day for people to lift the 351 out of top-spec Fairlanes to stick into something else

This ZG is listed at $44,000 and looks extensively worked inside and out.

The seller reports a full doors-off respray with the car now sporting a deep Blackened Bronze hue.

All chromework has been redone, and the interior impeccably re-upholstered in black leather.

The transmission is a rebuilt 3-speed C4 with shift kit and 2500 stall converter; and the engine is now a bigger 393 with 750 Holley four-barrel, PWR radiator, Edelbrock manifold, and three inch exhaust.

Sitting on Simmons P45, the car certainly looks the goods.

The seller states the car sounds and drives as great as it looks.
