1976 Datsun 260C – Todays Tempter

Rare Australian-delivered classic Datsun coupe with pillarless style and silky smooth six

The Fourth-generation Nissan 330 Cedric – as it was known in its native Japan market – was produced from 1976 to 1979.

The car was intended to be an upmarket line of personal vehicles, and was exported to various markets around the world as the Datsun 200C, 220C, 260C and 280C.

Body styles offered included a muscular two-door pillarless coupe,, four-door sedan and hardtop, and a five-door wagon; with engine options ranging from a 2.0lt inline-four, a slew of inline-sixes (2.0lt, 2.6lt and 2.8lt), and even two diesel inline-four options (1.0lt and 2.2lt).

The cars could be specified with either four or five-speed manuals, or a three-speed automatic.

This 1976 Australian-delivered Datsun 260C has reportedly been restored to “near original condition” three years ago by the current owner.

Fitted with the 2.6lt SOHC L26 mated to the three-speed automatic gearbox, the car features power steering, air-conditioning, remote fuel cap and boot release, electric windows and radio antenna; all as per factory delivery.

There are a few non-oem items such as the aftermarket wheels, Kenwood four-speaker sound system and remote central locking and immobilizer.

The seller states that he still has the original wheels and hubcaps, though they have been sandblasted and painted satin black.

Overall, the car looks incredibly tidy and largely visually unmodified and original. The listing indicates that the car has 43245kms on the odometer.

It’s a unique classic Japanese executive coupe with some muscular Americana design cues.

Listed for $32,000, the car is based in Queensland.
