Hardtops are hot in demand, but this XB Sedan could be the value GT buy
We sometimes have to remind even ourselves, but two-door GT Hardtops were actually quite hard to move when they were new. These days, it’s a stark contrast; with GT Hardtops in high demand, and virtually never seen below $100,000 anymore.
If you’re after a Falcon GT, the sedan might be the value proposition if you’re okay with two extra doors.
Our own XA-XB Falcon GT Market Review stipulates that sedans will frequently be found for up to 50% less than their coupe cousins.
The GT of course was the range-topping performance model of the catalogue, featuring an Australian-made 351ci Cleveland with disc brakes behind all four wheels.
Power was stifled a little thanks to emission regulations, but they remain fantastic grand touring cars; and with 1950 sedans plus 949 hardtops produced, remain highly collectible.
This 1976 XB GT Sedan reportedly represents one of just 89 GTs finished in “Tropic Gold”.
Its driveline comprised of the 351 Clevo and four-speed manual are original and numbers matching. The engine, gearbox and diff have all been reconditioned, with just 6000kms on the newly-rebuilt motor.
There’s new paint externally, with new carpet, interior, reconditioned instruments and factory power steering inside.
The GT sits on custom-made 15″ GS slotted wheels, and presents in overall good condition.
The hard yards have been done, and this car is one to enjoy.
It’s listed for $84,990 and is based in New South Wales.
