The original owner cared for the car for 43 years: garaged at all times and a true survivor
When buying a used car, we find you’re often judging the seller equally as much as the car itself.
You can see when a seller cares about the car, and sometimes… you can see when they clearly do not.
A well written classifieds listing says a lot – and if all rings true with this sweet 1975 VJ Valiant Ranger Wagon, this could be the one to buy.
As the listing states: the car rolled off the line in February 1975, and was delivered to its original owner in Melbourne – who went on to love and care for the car for 43 years until his death.
The original owner put 150,000kms on the car and reportedly kept it in a closed garage at all times.
The seller purchased the car in January 2019, and is now selling due to ‘personal reasons’.
The car presents in immaculate surviving original condition..
The car still wears its original Sherwood Green duco and shows no signs of fading after 44 years. The chromework still looks bright and the exterior still bears its factory original mud flaps and sun visor. The seller states he does not know when the Drifter wheels were added, and the only mark on the exterior is a small scratch on the rear driver’s side quarter, and some very minor surface rust spots.
All original decals and markings remain in place, all windows wind up and down easily, and the rear tailgate folds down effortlessly. Some slight oxidising is starting to appear around some of the badging, but it’s all original.
The brown interior is like-new and largely spotless save for a small tear beginning to appear on the passenger side of the front bench. Even all rubbers and mouldings reportedly present as new. There are non-original speakers in the front kickboards, and the air-conditioning components in the engine have been removed but come with the car to be re-fitted.
The single-barrel 245 Hemi-six is in perfect running order, with new hoses, re-cored radiator and new master cylinder.
All books, receipts and history come with the car, along with a new factory grille still in its packaging.
Overall, the car presents in absolutely stunning condition for its age. There are signs that of some enthusiast fiddling throughout its lifetime but it’s certainly not far from 100% factory at all.
