1974 XB Falcon ute – today’s workhorse tempter

Diamond in the rough

We reckon this ute looks pretty much the way all good utes should: tidy from a distance, but carrying a few battle scars once you get close.

We’re not entirely sure about Aunt Nellie’s carpet offcut in the tray, but have to admit it adds character.

In any case, this is a nice spec: 302 V8 in the nose, three-speed auto, 12-slotter wheels. Overall a nice low-grief and strong package.

The owner reckons it’s had a few upgrades, such as new bushes in the front end and a fresh ignition system.

XBs were the second-gen of the ‘coke bottle’ Falcons and were a true coupe utility.

See John Wright’s article on the XA-XB series utes (albeit the 351 version) – he’s clearly a fan.

Located in Vic, this car is priced at $14,000.
