1974 Holden Torana LH SLR – Todays Tempter

If you can see past the non-original 253, this might be the cheapest way into a Torana SLR

The LH Torana arrived in 1974, and was lauded as a truly Australian-designed mid-sized offering for our unique landscape.

Holden’s bigger HQ at the time was on a tear in the sales charts, but the new Torana had Holden’s top-brass more than confident in its merits as a versatile offering to Aussies “who want an alternative to full-size vehicles but whose needs would not be satisfied by a small car”.

It also had a wide range of engine options available, with many performance enthusiasts attracted by the V8s – of course which gave birth to the heroic SL/R 5000.

This LH Torrie is a genuine top-spec SLR with tags.

It was originally delivered from the factory with the 202 six-cylinder coupled to a four-speed manual.

Some time in its life, it was retrofitted with a larger 253 V8, and has been previously restored some years ago.

Of course, the non-original engine can dissuade some discerning collectors, however, if you can see past the retrofitted bent-eight – this is likely one of the cheapest entry points into Torrie SLR ownership!

The car presents well throughout, with a near perfect interior and only minor rust starting to appear in the doors. The rest of the body is said to be rust free, finished off by its original 13″ wheels and Nasco sunroof.

The car is said to be in perfect driving condition, with all brakes recently serviced along with a new brake booster and fitted.

The seller describes the car as “turn key and go” – and overall looks to be an honest well-presented car.

If you’re not too concerned with “matching numbers” buzzwords, this Torrie sedan would be an awesome weekender.

It’s listed for $35,000 and is based in South Australia.
