1974 Holden HQ Belmont Ute – Todays Tempter

Absynth Yellow over black: 253 V8 + M21 four-speed, restored in 2016

While HQs were built in huge numbers (over 485,000), it’s increasingly difficult to find neat examples of utes; as many enjoyed a full life of work on the tools before they were left at the tip, or in a paddock simply to rust away.

As time goes on, the market seems to show a larger disparity between big-dollar restos, and more neglected decaying examples – so what’s left in–between for the enthusiast?

This 1974 HQ Belmont ute might fit the bill nicely.

It’s got the ever-popular swathe of GTS bits (grille, guards, dash and gauges), along with a 253 V8 and Aussie M21 four-speed, finished in Absynth yellow over black interior.

Other details include factory power steering, Jelly bean wheels, new tonneau cover and immobiliser fitted.

The car received a prior restoration back in 2016, and is described as a damage and rust free vehicle, and a great driver.

The car was formerly on full Western Australia (“as a V8”, indicating that the car’s current specification may not be ‘original’ or as-delivered’), and is now in New South Wales on club registration.

It looks to be in great condition throughout, and – if not original – has all the right bits to make this one sweet weekend cruiser!

The Belmont ute is based in the Blue Mountains, NSW, and is listed for $32,500.
