1974 Ford XB Falcon 500 – Todays Tempter

74,000 miles from new, this handsome XB 500 is in stunningly unrestored condition

Making its debut in dealerships in 1973, the Ford XB Falcon was a revision and refinement of the ever-popular XA Falcon

The XA Falcon was a breakout car for Ford Australia, and the XB took Falcon sales to new heights – with total XB production tallying some 220,765 cars, or 68,156 more than the XA.

Styling was redesigned, with more Mustang influence; a power bulge was massaged into the bonnet, which gained a steeper visual overhang for a more aggressive raked look.

Mechanically, the XB gained front disc brakes, with the Futura and Fairmont models taking on power assistance. Factory options included a sunroof, power windows, variable ratio power-steering, radio/stereo cassette player, GT reclining bucket seats, electric clock, mag wheels, lower suspension, long-range tank, vinyl roof, LSD, twin exhaust, carpet and cloth seats.

Engine options included two inline-sixes, a 3.2lt and 4.1lt: as well as two-barrel 4.9lt and 5.7lt V8s with to top spot occupied by the GT’s four-barrel unit.

Transmission options remained unchanged from the preceding XA, with a three-speed column shift manual, Cruis-O-matic auto on the column or as a T-bar, or a four-on-the-floor manual.

This 1974 XB Falcon 500 is fitted with its factory and original 4.1lt six which was reconditioned in 2016, mated to the three-speed column mounted manual.

Sellers, Australian Muscle Car Sales in NSW, claim this to be an all-original unrestored “survivor” car, still finished in its original Deep Aqua paint, with interior in amazing and near perfect unrestored condition.

The car presents incredibly well, with immensely clean engine bay and boot, interior is free of tears and spots, as is the vinyl roof on appearance.

If the car is as good in person as it looks and sounds here, it could prove to be immense value as a collectible, cruiser or resto – at a listed price of $23,900.

The car is based in NSW, and you can check out the full listing here!
