Fully restored Citroen represents the height of 70s futurism
When the curtains dropped on the Citroen DS at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, it was immediately praised for its revolutionary innovation, and for its swoopy art-deco looks.
Some still call it the most beautiful car ever. And by the time that Paris Motor Show closed, 12,000 orders had been placed.
The car boasts an extensive and sophisticated hydraulics system that compliments the independent suspension at all four corners. Its claim to fame was its revolutionary self-levelling system that helped achieve sharp handling but also a very comfortable ride quality.
The car was also the world’s first mass-produced unitary body front-wheel drive car, with an unconventional construction of both aluminium and fibreglass materials.
The 1974 Citroen DS on sale here, via Undercover Cars in Queensland – has been fully restoredand features an inline-four motor mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
Both the exterior and interior appears to be in near-flawless condition, with the interior gaining a full reupholstering during the restoration.
The car is listed for $28,500 and represents the height of 70s futurism and a fascinating footnote in automotive history.
