Alfa's starter kit on wheels
Alfa Romeo’s Junior (or Type 105) series lasted a remarkably long time, from 1963 until 1977 when the range was replaced.
Intended as your first step in Alfa ownership, it shared a lively 1300 inline four with more exotic cars such as Zagato Junior which were limited to this engine size to get around home market tax laws.
If your wallet could cope with it, you could also get a 1600 verison.
The 1300 is in fact a 1290cc alloy unit with twin overhead cams and two valves per cylinder, running twin Weber carburettors. It claimed just a shade over 100hp (75kW).
With a five-speed manual transmission, top speed was said to be 170km/h.
As for the chassis, it runs disc brakes and a De Dion rear axle.
Juniors are relatively thin on the ground in Australia and this one looks like it’s been treated to a restoration. Located in Victoria, it’s on the market for $49,800.
