Part of the Beetle legend
We reckon a brightly-coloured Beetle is one of those cars pretty well guaranteed to put a smile on the face – it’s just a happy sight.
Books have been filled with the history of this iconic line and you’ll find plenty out there still being restored, modified and even raced. Unique Cars magazine columnist Glenn Torrens has a long track record with all of those activities, and you’ll often see him working on one in the mag.
In our buyer guide on the car, Cliff Chambers wrote: “The Super Bug, as this model was officially known, came with a 1.6-litre engine, disc brakes and optional automatic transmission. The suspension was modified to eliminate the oversteer that terrified some owners of early cars but delighted those who reveled in their Beetles’ tail-happy ways.”
This example is a 1973 Superbug with the 1600 engine and manual transmission. The owner mentioned a number of upgrades, including twin carburetors and a refreshed interior. Located near Grafton in NSW, it’s on the market at $26,000.
