Unrestored and very original HQ Statesman: Original 308 and Trimatic, recently serviced
By the early 70s, Ford’s Fairlane owned the Aussie executive sector, with Holden’s own Brougham failing to make a dent at the time.
Holden started afresh with the HQ series, and found overnight success with a more expansive offering of variants, especially compared to the Chrysler by Chrysler of the time.
The HQs main attraction was its strong upmarket distinction from the rest of the Roaring Lion’s range.
It certainly looked like nothing else in the range, with its distinctly Cadillac front end; and with the (rare) option of Chev’s 350ci V8(usually reserved for Holden’s sportiest models), the standalone luxury Statesman looked like nothing else on offer.
This 1973 HQ Statesman DeVille is finished in its original Covert Metallic paint with brown vinyl roof and interior. Original, numbers-correct, 308 V8 and Trimatic auto are in place with a reported genuine 89,516kms on the odometer.
The car has factory power steering and has recently been fully serviced along with new shocks, springs and bushes, water pump and plugs.
In extremely original and unrestored condition, the listing does point out some minor rust bubbles behind the rear wheel, and a small ding in the nose cone – but otherwise presents very clean with a near-perfect interior (small tear on driver’s seat).
The car is said to be in perfect running condition, and would make an awesome weekend limo for a listed $25,000.
The car is based in Queensland, and you can check out the full listing here!
