Matching numbers with all documentation, one family owned.
Ford’s XA Falcon was a breakout success, with the updated XB taking Falcon sales to new heights.
The XB arrived in 1973 and by the end of its life; production totalled 220,765 cars, some 68,156 more than the XA.
Styling-wise, the XB gained a healthy dose of mustang influence, and a new power bulge was massaged into the bonnet.
Underneath the skin, the XB gained front disc brakes, with Futura and Fairmont models gaining power assistance. Engine options included: a 3.2lt and 4.1lt inline-six; as well as two-barrel 4.9lt and 5.7lt V8s underneath the range-topping four-barrel found under the bonnet of the GT.
This early-build XB Fairmont presents as-delivered with GS Rally Pack option.
Coming from one family ownership, the Fairmont bears its matching numbers 302 Cleveland with T-Bar C4 automatic transmission.
The XB Fairmont is finished in original Cosmic Blue over Chamois interior, and has covered a genuine 95,712 miles from new. It comes with all log books, owner’s manual, factory build sheet and dealer brochure.
A few period upgrades have been installed over its life; with dual exhausts being fitted in the 80s, and a four-barrel Holley carburettor fitted 35 years ago, four wheel disc brakes were also fitted in the late-80s.
Overall, the XB looks like a stunning time-warp car. If all is correct and true with the car and its provenance, it could definitely be one to preserve!
The car is based in NSW, and is listed for $48,000.
