Few Australian performance cars capture the raw, unapologetic attitude of the early 1970s quite like the Valiant Charger VH R/T, and fewer still sit higher in the pecking order than the fearsome Six Pack Hemi.
Built during the height of Australia’s horsepower war, the triple-Weber Hemi-engined Charger represented Chrysler Australia at its most aggressive — lightweight, loud, and unapologetically driver-focused.
This 1972 Valiant Charger VH offered by Chicane Auctions, is underpinned by something increasingly rare and significant: a genuine E37-specification 265ci Six Pack engine and complete drivetrain sourced from a damaged original E37 770 donor vehicle.

E37 SIX PACK POWER
At the core sits the original E37-specification 265ci Six Pack straight-six, retaining its factory triple Weber carburettor setup — complete with the correct rocker cover, throttle linkages, and both flat and domed air cleaner assemblies. These details are critical, as the induction system was the defining feature of the E37, responsible for its explosive throttle response and race-bred personality.
Internally, the engine has been fully balanced and sympathetically upgraded to enhance durability and usability while respecting originality. Improvements include fully floating rods, a large harmonic balancer, roller rockers, an electronic distributor (with the original distributor included), an electric fuel pump, and improved cooling via a thermostatically controlled electric fan. The result is an engine that retains its authentic character and soundtrack while benefiting from sensible enhancements for modern use

RT BODY LINE
Presented with a straight, rust-free and freshly painted body, having recently undergone a glass-out respray in its original and iconic Hemi Orange. Finished with the R/T scoop, blackouts, and detailing, this Charger presents with the visual aggression that made the VH RT such a standout on Australian roads and racetracks alike. The overall presentation delivers true Aussie muscle presence, perfectly aligned with the car’s original E37 performance credentials. This Charger rides on OE W35 wheels and retains correct lighting, including sealed-beam headlights and auxiliary driving lights.

OE DRIVELINE
Backing the Six Pack is a correct three-speed manual gearbox, complete with unknown Bathurst stamped markings, paired with an OE twin-plate clutch. Power is delivered to a reconditioned E37-specification 3.24:1 limited-slip differential, maintaining the gearing and traction characteristics that made these cars such formidable performers in period.
Suspension and braking remain true to E37 specification, featuring E37 torsion bars and sway bar, reconditioned Girlock front disc brakes, and a reconditioned OE master cylinder. Original finned rear drums are supplied with the car, further reinforcing the commitment to authenticity.
Additional period touches include genuine “Big Tank” twin fuel fillers feeding a non-original fuel tank, along with extractors and twin exhausts fitted in correct E37 style — details that collectively reinforce the car’s visual and mechanical credibility.

770 INTERIOR
Inside, the cabin is trimmed to 770 specification and features the original sports tacho rally dashboard, a key 770 E37 hallmark that placed vital engine information directly in the driver’s line of sight. While the interior presents honestly, the dash pad does show cracking, and the headlining and select minor trim items will require attention to bring the cabin up to the same standard as the exterior. Offering an opportunity for the next custodian to refine the car further without detracting from its mechanical authenticity.

AS IT STANDS
A Charger like this is increasingly desirable. Genuine E37 Six Pack components are scarce, and examples that combine authentic mechanical provenance with strong presentation are becoming harder to source.
As an RT tribute built around genuine numbers E37 running gear and some may even call it a Rebody (let’s not go down that dark alley), this VH delivers the driving experience enthusiasts crave, without the entry barrier associated with fully original, numbers-matching cars.
It stands as a compelling option for those who appreciate the raw motorsport-inspired fury, that made the Valiant Charger one of Australia’s most revered performance cars.
