1972 MGB GT – today’s tempter

British classic

For anyone who can think back to the sixties and seventies, the MGB stands out as the quintessential affordable British sports car.

For the maker, it was an enormously important step forward, as noted in our feature on the series: “MG’s intentions for the new car were not centred on performance alone. A larger, better finished and almost weatherproof cabin combined with open-air ambience to challenge the sporty coupes that had become popular in North America.”

They enjoyed a reputation for being reasonably robust and a surprisingly good handling package.

This GT runs the 1.8lt inline four matched to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

Located in Melbourne, it’s on the market for $35,000.
