One of 16 factory track red examples: original paint and trim, genuine survivor
The late-1970 arrival of the ZD Fairlane represented the zenith and final iteration of the original big-body Blue Oval luxo-barge, before the all-new ZF landed in 1972.
The Fairlane was a massive win for Ford in the early 70s, dominating the full-size luxury segment and providing the go-to option for those wanting a blend of space, toughness and a healthy dose of prestige.
The ZD brought in minor cosmetic changes including brushed metal hubcaps and additional body embellishments, and the colour palette was expanded to include distinctly 70s paint options, including Wild Violet and Vermillion Fire.
The Fairlane Custom was the standard variant, and was packaged with the 250-six and three-speed manual as standard, although they could be spec’d up with four-speed manuals, autos as well as 302 and 351 V8s as options.
The up-spec Fairlane 500 was ‘auto-only’ from factory, and was fitted with the 302 V8 as standard; with this very original Track Red example presenting as such.
With the original 302 Windsor and cruise-o-matic in place, the car presents in exceedingly original and un-fettled condition – still wearing its original paint and original trim inside the cabin.
Just 16 Track Red ZD Fairlanes were ever produced, and this presents in excellent condition with just 85,954kms travelled. This Fairlane is also optioned from factory with integrated air-con, power steering as well as the Superfringe push-button radio; and also wears period accessories such as the weather shields.
Overall, it looks to be a genuine and well-presented survivor. If you’re after a classic local luxury limo, this ZD Fairlane in rare Track Red – and with seemingly good history – might be worth a look!
