1971 Ford XY Fairmont – Todays Tempter

Everyone loves an XY: Here’s a very original one-owner Fairmont with nothing left to do

The XY has long been one of Australia’s most loved iterations of the local Falcon.

But we’ve noticed a shift over the past few years, where collector interest has shied away from the various GT-clones of yore, and a larger focus placed on rare-spec original family models.

Clean original V8 Falcons, and exemplary six-cylinder high-spec Fairmonts are hotly in demand.

This very original one-owner Fairmont may be considered an example of the latter.

Incredibly untouched with just 73,000 purported original miles travelled on this one.

The 250-six has been rebuilt and is coupled to a column-shift auto, and performs as “smooth as silk”.

The saddle interior is reportedly all original and the listing states that the car has never even had a radio fitted.

The body is said to be completely free of rust and parking dents, and has had a closed-door respray in its original Monza Green, with original paint still visible in door jams, engine bay and boot.

Overall, the car presents in incredible and like-new condition. If you’re after a very original XY Fairmont, this example makes a strong case for itself – and we wouldn’t bet on finding many other genuine “one owner” cars.

The Fairmont is based in Sydney, and is listed for $59,500.
