Volvo’s 1960s-70s grand tourer, a late model with fuel-injected motor
Produced between 1961 to 1973, the Volvo P1800 was a front-engined, rear-drive 2+2 that was intended cut into the sports car market of the US and Europe.
Originally a two-door coupe body, the car in its final years was evolved into a shooting-brake.
The car was mechanically underpinned by the Volvo Amazon/122.
Originally available with a 1.8lt inline-four, with later model updates, the engine swelled to a 2.0lt unit with Bosch fuel injection.
Gearboxes offered were two four-speed manuals (one with overdrive) and a three-speed BorgWarner automatic.
They’re a rare car with handsome styling, typified by an uninterrupted waistline and even some shallow tailfins.
This 1970 model P1800E bears that uprated 2.0lt B-engine with fuel injection and five-speed manual overdrive gearbox. It’s incredibly well-kept by seemingly loving (and very Volvo-savvy) owners.
The car bears just 87,000 miles over its 48 years of lie, and has reportedly always been garaged and cared for.
The seller states that the car must be moved as they have too many other projects on the go (we can relate).
The car will come with original wheels and various new and spare parts.
The car is based in Tasmania and is listed for $42,000 or nearest offer.
