Brit classic
We reckon there are two cars that exemplify 1960s Britain: The Mini and the E-type. The latter was introduced to the public at the 1961 Geneva Motorshow and was an immediate success.
According to Mark Higgins in a feature on the series: “The E-type was really like nothing else before it boasting power-assisted disc brakes, (in-board rears) rack and pinion steering, rear independent suspension torsion bars at the front and the employment of racing design principles such as having a spaceframe carrying the engine, front suspension and front bodywork.”
All that at around half the price for an equivalent Ferrari.
The series had a 13-year production run, and was superseded by the XJS.
This 1970 example is a 2 + 2 running the 4.2lt six-cylinder engine and fours-speed manual transmission.
It’s with John Conroy in Brisbane, priced at $159,990.
