Attractively-priced XW GT tribute: GT-correct interior, 351 Cleveland, four-speed manual
Once upon a time, a number of decades ago, the thought of a tribute GT Falcon was a little absurd. Why would you go through the effort when the real deals were readily available and not hugely expensive? But then, alongside the mining boom, the first big price waves hit and suddenly good GTs – and of course HOs – were rapidly reaching once-unthinkable numbers.
Since then though, tributes and replicas have not only grown more commonplace, but they’ve since been accepted as a legitimate part of the classic car market for the everyday enthusiast at a fraction of the cost of the increasingly collectible hero cars.
This XW GT replica on the market is an older build but still presents well and has all the right bits.
It’s fitted with a 351 Cleveland which was rebuilt back in 2002 with a mild cam, 750cfm Holley carburettor, electronic distributor, four-core radiator, extractors and 2″ exhaust. Sending power to the wheels is a Ford four-speed Toploader manual and a 9″ LSD rear end.
The car was repainted in Diamond White and gained is golden Super Roo stripes in 2008, with all work done professionally and free of bog.
Inside the cabin, the interior is said to be all GT-correct with a genuine GT dash, 140mph speedometer and 8,000rpm tachometer. The car features new bonnet lining, chrome mouldings, GT badges, original Superfringe radio, working clock and aftermarket retractable seat belts. Door trims are new, as is the upholstery, front armrests, boot and door weatherstrips, and sun visors. The car is said to have travelled just 4,270 miles since the restoration was completed.
The XW has been owned since 2003 and is said to have been rarely used and always garaged. The current owner is said to never drive the car at night or in the rain; and further claims that water has never touched the car since paint and panel were completed in 2008, choosing instead to use waterless wash.
According to the listing, the XW GT tribute is not a show car, but a pleasure to drive and a head-turner. It’s got full WA registration until late November, and will come with its personalised plates if sold within WA.
