1969 Holden HK Kingswood – Todays Tempter

Solid package with upgrades – Cruise as is or get a head start on a rolling resto

Holden’s HK range landed in 1968, with the Kingswood name replacing the mid-spec Standard trim line – sitting above the Belmont and below the Premier.

Later that year, the larger luxurious Brougham arrived along with a new coupe called the Monaro.

The HK range consisted of sedans, station wagons as well as utilities and panel vans.

They were powered by a variety of inline-sixes (161,186 and 186S) or a 5.0lt or 5.4lt Chev V8; and sent power to the back wheels via a three or four-speed manual or a two-speed PowerGlide.

The HK was the first Australian car fitted with an energy-absorbing steering column, and also gained a new dual circuit braking system.

This 1968 HK Kingswood wagon may not be one for those chasing 100% originality, but it looks like a very tidy package.

The seller says it’s powered by a reliable 308 with a turbo 350 transmission. It’s got VN-VP disc brakes at all four corners, new rubbers and a decent body with (reportedly) no rust showing.

Inside it’s got a whole new interior characterised by a B&M shifter and an aftermarket steering wheel.

It’s an eye-catching restomod, with some thoughtful real world touches.

For $29,000 – you could cruise happily on weekends, or use it as a pretty decent leg up on a rolling resto without having to take it off the road.

The car is based in Melbourne, and you can check out the full listing here!
