1969 Ford 428 Cobra – today’s fastback tempter

Giant fastback has huge appeal

What is it about Ford fastbacks from the sixties? They’re definitely among the best-looking muscle cars of the era and tend to command pretty solid prices.

This car is an interesting mix of spec, running a 428ci (7.0lt) non-Ram-air Cobra Jet V8 matched to a C6 three-speed auto transmission.

The whole Torino range was a giant mix-and-match opportunity for would-be buyers, with a mind-boggling options list. Several engines and transmissions were just the start, along with countless chassis and cosmetic upgrades.

It seems the original buyer of this car wanted a few extras, including front disc brakes, tacho, bucket seats and clock.

The owner says this is the only car recorded with its mix of features, however it’s the engine and transmission combo which really dictate the value.

You can’t help thinking it offers a lot for the money when compared with local muscle cars.

Based in WA, it’s on the market for $68,500.
