Restored Classic British wagon is one of the best of its kind
Introduced two years after the Mk1s initial release, the wagon body arrived in 1965.
Built to the same length as the saloon, the wagon adds a more cohesive visual styling compared to the upright three-box car.
Originally powered by a higher-compression 2lt straight-six originally found in the Standard Vanguard at the end of 1960, a mid-cycle update in 1965 brought in the option petrol-injected 2.5lt providing a much welcomed power bump.
1969 saw the Mk2 arrive in showrooms, in four spec levels. From the entry-level 2000, up throughout the 2500, 2500TC and 2500PI.
The PI was still the only fuel-injected motor, the remaining models utilising either twin Stromberg or SU carburettors.
In 1975, the 2500PI was replaced with the 2500S, returning to the older twin-carb setup.
This car here is a post-update Mk1 wagon, that seems to have originally been delivered with the first twin-carb 2.0lt. Since then however, the owner has fitted the larger 2.5lt engine from the later Mk2 2500.
The seller says the car has had a ground-up restoration, bears no remaining rust, and presents beautifully in Valencia Blue. Dual circuit brakes have also been retrofitted.
The car has purportedly won numerous awards, and won Director’s Choice Award at the 2014 National Show and Shine in Euroa.
With all receipts and photos in their possession, as well as spares including the previous 2lt six-banger – this Mk1 wagon looks like it’s been under excellent care.
The car is listed at $20,000, and you can check out the full listing here!
