Two-owner XT with just 110,000 miles: highly optioned from factory
Ford’s Mustang-bred XR Falcon was a breakout hit for the local Blue Oval branch; so it’s understandable that they kept the updated XT close to the chest until it arrived in showrooms in 1968.
Visually, the XT was distinguished by a new grille, rear indicators, hubcaps and badging; with split-system brakes, larger tyres and electric windscreen washers found under its skin.
There were three trim levels to choose from; in four-door sedan and wagon body styles, as well as two-door utility and van bodies.
Buyer’s could choose from two inline-sixes – a 188 or 221; or two variants – a basic and high-output GT version – of the 302 V8.
The XT also has some motorsport pedigree too: winning the 1969 Surders Paradise 12 Hour ahead of the ’68 Bathurst-winning Monaro; and finishing third, fifth and eighth in the London-Sydney Marathon.
This particular XT Falcon 500 comes to market just two-owners from new – the first of which owned the car until 1997.
The 221-six and Cruise-O-Matic gearbox are numbers-correct to the vehicle, as delivered to B. S. Stillwell Ford in Adelaide 52 years ago.
This XT is finished in Polar White (repainted in 1999), over blue vinyl trim; and presents incredibly well cared for with just 110,000 miles on the odometer.
The engine was also full reconditioned five years ago (with receipts to show) with the car looking near brand new overall. Really the only hint of any visible wear identifiable in the photos is some minor wear to the steering wheel.
It comes highly optioned from new, factory-fitted with: front disc brakes, heavy-duty sump guard package, original push-button radio, laminated front windscreen and sunvisor, passenger side mirror, full-dress wheel covers, silent-flo fresh air system, rear venetians and more!
This is likely near as good as you’ll find, and if you’re looking to capture and preserve a snapshot of classic Aussie Blue Oval motoring – this XT might be worth a look.
This XT Falcon 500 is based in Melbourne, and is listed for $41,500.
