Full restoration, matching numbers and all
For the year 1968, the Torino nameplate took the mantle as the top-spec trim of the Fairlane model, and was distinguished from the standard Fairlane 500 by special emblems and trim.
At the very top of the tree sat the Torino GT, a sports oriented trim level, and powered by a 302ci V8, capable of 157kW.
Other features included bucket seats and console, special Torino GT name plaques, exterior trim, safety and courtesy lights and deluxe wheel covers.
In 1968, Ford built 159 Torino GT Pace Cars for, most notably, the ’68 Indianapolis 500.
This car is reportedly one of those authentic pace cars in completely original and fully restored condition.
The original 302ci V8 has been fully rebuilt, with less than 800kms on it since.
The seller also claims the body has been recently restored and now bears immaculate paintwork. Likewise, the interior is like-new, and the convertible top is in perfect condition.
The car certainly looks the part, and is impossible to fault from photos.
Authentic pace cars are exceedingly rare, and this one in fully restored condition seems incredibly well-priced at $49,000.
The car is based in Sorrento, Victoria. You can check out the full listing here!
