1968 Chevrolet Corvette C3 427 – Todays Tempter

Early chrome-bumper C3 ‘Vette with numbers-correct factory 427

There are many layers to Corvette collecting: with international collectors flocking to earlier C1 and C2 versions for their wide-regarded styling.

The C3 generation straddles the line in terms of mainstream accessibility, offering big engines and big road presence for very reasonable money when you look at what our Aussie-made cars are doing on the market at the moment.

Within the broad C3 church however, it’s the early pre-facelift chrome bumper cars that are most sought after. Cars from 1973 onwards ditched their chrome bumpers for an all-fibreglass nose, and in the case of the most commonly specified 350ci V8; received a lower power output due to emerging ‘smog’ and emissions regulations in the US.

This early pre-smog 1968 model C3 Corvette represents one of the peaks of C3 Corvette ownership.

It’s an early chrome-bumper car, and is specified with the top-of-the-range 427 (7.0lt) V8 mated to an automatic transmission.

Details and photos are scant within the listing unfortunately, but it appears to be in fair condition and in its native left-hook configuration.

The listing stipulates that it bears its original and numbers-correct 427ci motor and original side pipes.

It presents in black metallic paintwork over black leather interior, with power windows, power steering and power disc brakes.

It’s a perennial US muscle car classic that should gain plenty of head nods at your next All American Day.

The car is based and registered in South Australia, and is listed for $63,990.
