1967 Valiant VC Safari – today’s tempter

Classic wagon

Though the VC Valiant saw just 18 months of production between 1966 and 1967, Chrysler managed to pump out an impressive 65,000 units.

The Safari wagon on offer here runs the entry level driveline, consisting of a 225ci slant-six and three-speed manual transmission.

Though a bent eight was also offered on this generation, our buyer’s guide points out the base combo was no slug. “Manual cars could get very close to 10 seconds for the 0-60mph (0-97km/h) sprint and top speed was more than 160km/h.”

These were and are a good tow-car too, with lots of torque from very low engine speeds and superior engine braking in low gear than was available from the Holden’s two-speed Powerglide transmission.”

The wagon on offer is a ‘67 from Pindimar, NSW, and boasts new running gear. Described as being in good condition all ‘round, it could be yours for $28,000.
