Mechanically sorted HR: all new wiring, a few mechanical goodies, recently serviced
The Holden HR is regarded as a welcome ‘Australianised’ face-lift of the preceding HD.
Vertical taillights were added, the nose was sharpened, and integrated front parking lights complimented the restyled roofline, rear window and wider track.
The HR was first generation since the red motor’s introduction in the EH to enlarge engine capacity across the range; with the smaller 149 increasing to 161ci, and the larger 179 up to 186ci.
This 1967 HR Special goes even bigger, with the listing indicating the fitment of a 202 red, coupled to a four-speed M20 manual. The 202 has got a 70/30 cam and a Holley carburettor attached, backed up by all-new wiring, a recent major service and presents mechanically “A1”.
The rest of the car looks complete, but with some work needed. There is some surface rust stipulated in the listing, and the driver’s side rear quarter has some body filler showing. The interior is free of noticeable tears but shows its fair share of sun fading.
Overall, the little red HR looks like a workable project and sounds like it’s in running and driving condition.
