Sweet survivor HR Prem wagon!
The HR Holden arrived in the autumn of 1966 and was only produced for two years until 1968.
The humble HR was a redesign of the lacklustre and much-maligned HD, with extensive visual changes, a more luxurious cabin, superior suspension and increased performance.
There was a HR for everyone; available as sedans, wagons, panel vans and utes in three levels of trim – the Premier being the top of the tree.
There were four improved straight-sixes to choose from ranging from 161 through to the 186. Two-speed Powerglides were common though you could also get a three-speed manual.
While 250,000 of them were produced, the Premier was a significant step up in price back in the day – $500 above the basic sedan which set you back $2300.
Original Premier survivors are a powerful combo for Holden collectors, and this longroof looks like quite a find.
Up for sale here is a 1967 HR Premier station wagon, sweetly finished in Ardona Blue metallic with white roof and tailgate.
The interior is the original button style Premier vinyl trim with bucket seats up front. It’s all as it left the factory, complete with heater demister, woodgrain, console, Kriesler AM radio, and even a Nasco electric tailgate (yes, it still works!).
Under its classic skin sits the biggest 186ci six-banger and Powerglide transmission.
Overall, the car looks like one sweet survivor! The interior seats do show some wear but the body looks to be in great shape for the age. The listing indicates that there are some small spots of rust “in the usual places”, but it would almost be a shame to take this old boy off the road.
