Premium muscle
With the muscle car ‘race’ well and truly underway in the USA in the mid-1960s, Chevrolet’s premium C2 Corvette was an important hero model for the brand.
As we noted in a feature on these cars: “Most prominent and successful of the big-engined Chevrolets released for 1966 was the Corvette Sting Ray 427. Bill Mitchell’s extraordinary C2 shape had already stunned sports car devotees across the world and from 1966 it came with power to match its looks. All-wheel disc brakes had arrived a year earlier and helped a lot when trying to stop a nose-heavy rocket from the wicked side of 240km/h.”
This example represents the pinnacle of the C2 line-up, with the L36 version of the 427ci (7.0lt) V8, which claimed 390hp, matched to a four-speed manual transmission and Posi-Traction diff.
The seller says the car has had a complete restoration, including mechanical rebuild. It’s with Australian Muscle Car Sales in Sydney at $249,000.
