Second owner, purchased from original owner in 1974, unrestored, 84,000 genuine miles, everything works
The EH Holden of 1963 is widely regarded as one of the most significant new models since the original 48-215.
This is largely in thanks to the debut of the all-new red line of engines, while the rest of the chassis was largely an evolution of the outgoing EJ.
Three variants of the new red motor were offered: the low-compression 149ci. The standard 149ci, and the big 179ci.
Bodies could be had in sedan, station wagon, utility and panel van configuration; something for everyone it seemed, as the EH posted 250,000 sales posted in the first 18 months on the market. It remains the fastest-selling Australian car to this day.
They typify a lot of what there is to like about classic Australian family cars: simple, robust and relatively easy to maintain and drive (once you get the hang of the column-shift manual).
This 1964 station wagon presents with the big 179ci inline-six and in popular mid-tier Special trim.
It looks to be a fantastic find, offered for sale on behalf of just its second owner. This is the first time it’s being offered for sale since they purchased the car off the original owner in 1974.
The EH wagon has covered 84,000 genuine miles, with the seller stating that the odo has never been around the clock, and has never received any body or mechanical restoration outside of normal maintenance.
In very original and unrestored condition, the EH runs well and has never been in an accident. The seller states that everything works, and claims to be in possession of full history since new.
If anyone out there is after a EH, this might be the one to look at. The car was last registered in 1995, so may require some work in getting it back on the road, however it looks to be a fantastic starting point.
The EH station wagon is based in New South Wales and is listed for $38,000.
