Austin Healey is one of those names that has built up an incredible history in competition, and is still very much alive and well in classic racing.
Creator Donald Healey was a formidable character, as we point out in a feature on a Healey 100: “Healey volunteered with the Royal Flying Corps when WWI began at the ripe old age of 16. Following the war he began learning motor skills at his father’s shop in Cornwall. Soon he was entering every rally he could with his 832cc Triumph Super Seven. He entered the 1929 Monte Carlo rally for the first time in 1929, got lost and was disqualified.”
He of course went on to greater things.
This BJ8 was a premium product in the Healey range, running a 3.0lt inline six said to be good for 150hp, matched to a four-speed manual with overdrive.
The Healey Factory in Melbourne has it on the market for $89,500.
