1963 Ford Fairlane Compact – todays tempter

American cruising without the crazy pricing

We kind of like the idea of the cross-pollination behind this car: it’s an American design, but assembled locally at what was then Ford’s Homebush plant. Local production is said to have totalled 1771 cars.

Under the hood you got the 260 cube (4.3lt) Windsor V8, tied to a two-speed Fordomatic auto. Nothing to get the pulse racing, perhaps, but a very capable package with good cruising ability and pretty much unbreakable.

A car like this FC model gives you the sixties feel without punishing you with steep running costs. In fact, reliability should be excellent.

The owner of this example says the alternator and brakes have been upgraded, while they’ve sensible enough to keep the original parts.

Fully registered to the end of 2017, it comes with a roadworthy. Asking price is $27,000.
