1962 Triumph TR4 – today’s tempter

Old school roadster

In a time when cars tend to be as much about electronics as engines, it’s refreshing to come across a back-to-basics roadster.

Triumph’s TR production series began in 1953 with the TR2, finishing with the quick and shapely TR8, with its 3.5lt alloy V8 powerplant. That car was built until 1981.

The TR3 ran 1961-65 with styling credited to Giovanni Michelotti. His credits included cars for Ferrari, Lancia and Maserati.

Powered by a 2.1lt inline four claiming 100hp (75kW), the TR4 ran a four-speed manual with overdrive and full synchro and weighed a touch under 1000kg. For its time, it was a good performer.

This example claims to be in good ready-to-go shape and is with the Healey Factory in Melbourne. It’s priced at $49,500.
